2018 NBA Futures – Team to Make the Playoffs

The 2018-19 National Basketball Association season is about to tip-off, making it the perfect time to get your NBA future bets in. Most online sportsbooks have more betting type options than you can dream of, but future wagers are some of my favorites because they offer season long entertainment. Let’s look at some betting lines for NBA teams to make the playoffs.

Detroit Pistons | Yes: -175 | No: +140

The Detroit Pistons finished 2017-18 with 39 wins, which put them in 9th place in the East, four games back from the Washington Wizards who got the 8th and final playoff spot last season.

After acquiring Blake Griffin at the end of January, the Pistons went 17-17. A closer look at their record shows they managed 9 wins in their last 13 games, giving reason for optimism for Pistons fans.

The biggest question is who will regress in the East and give up their playoff spot from last year? I like for Griffen, Andre Drummond, Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley to help get this team to the next level.

Denver Nuggets | Yes: -400 | No: +300

I love the moves the Nuggets made this offseason after narrowly missing the playoffs last season. They finished 2017-18 with 46 wins, one behind both the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves, who occupied the final two playoff spots in the West.

Denver did not lose any key pieces in the offseason, and added Isaiah Thomas in free agency. There is no way Thomas could have regressed that much that he is now a non-factor. Expect him to help this team win games. On top of that, if Michael Porter Jr. can get healthy, he will give a boost to the Nuggets, possibly getting them to the NBA’s second season.

While I am not in love with the sportsbooks odds for the Nuggets to make the playoffs at -400, I am confident they will get there in 2018-19.

Los Angeles Lakers | Yes: -400 | No: +300

The Lakers have the same odds to make the playoffs as the Nuggets, but they have one thing going for them the Nuggets do not…and that is LeBron James. LeBron has made it to the NBA Finals the last 8 seasons, so to expect him to not make the playoffs is ludicrous.

The King has enough around him Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and if Lonzo Ball can be anything like predicted, not only does this Lakers squad have a great chance to make the playoffs, they may actually win a series or two.

We have seen LeBron put his team on his shoulders and will them to victory, so even though online sportsbooks have the odds set for the Lakers to make the playoffs at -400, it is a great bet. I mean, they signed 6 others in free agency on top of LeBron, something has to give.

Keep Your Bookie Business in the Black with Pay Per Head

Dallas Mavericks | Yes: +600 | No: -900

We all know Mark Cuban hates to lose, evidenced by the Mavs going out and signing multiple free agents, including defensive specialist DeAndre Jordan. They also drafted four quality players, including 19-year-old Luka Doncic at #3, who they are hoping will be the next Euro star.

I am not putting much value on the Mavericks to make the playoffs this season, but with their betting odds to do so at +600, I will be throwing a few bucks on them.

Miami Heat | Yes: -450 | No: +325

A look at offseason moves shows the Miami Heat standing pat, with no one is and no one out. Even though they managed 44 wins and the 6th seed in the East last season, this is a team I can see regressing and opening a spot for some new blood in the playoffs this season.

It may just be a gut feeling, but if there is one team with good odds to miss the playoffs, and pay off at season’s end, it is the Heat at +325 to miss the playoffs.

Portland Trail Blazers | Yes: +125 | No: -155

The Northwest division winner and 3rd seed in the West last season are offering great odds to make the playoffs at +125. Damian Lillard is one of the most underrated players in the NBA, and with CJ McCollum and Al-Farouq Aminu returning, I like their chances of making the playoffs again in 2018.

If their first round draft pick Anferne Simons can make a difference, I really like the Blazers chances. This may be one of the best of the sportsbooks odds to make the NBA playoffs.
