Sweet 16-Kansas State vs. Kentucky

Will the real Kentucky please stand up? This Kentucky Wildcats team is one of the weirdest that we have seen in a long time. The Wildcats are a competitive team; now. They were a fly by night time early on in the season but the selection committee got this one right. John Calipari has his team revved up and they are ready to go just as in prior seasons.

“Forget the seeds,” Calipari said Monday. “Everybody is 0-0 that’s moving forward and it’s not about seeding; it’s about who is playing the best. We are in a tough region.”

Re-think the Kentucky Wildcats, they could be for real and they just might continue. Kansas State got by and they are in this thing but now they play the Kentucky Wildcats and it’s not going to be easy. Calipari is a top 5 coach in all of college basketball and he will have the team prepared. This one will most likely go to the wire and be close throughout.

Kansas State is back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2010. Kansas State, the No. 8 seed, defeated Creighton and tournament darling UMBC to advance despite missing its best player to injury.

“Their perseverance, their courage, and just its gutsy. I’m so proud of them,” Kansas State coach Bruce Weber said Sunday. “We just kept saying we weren’t scoring, but we kept guarding, we’re still winning.”

The last time that Kentucky played Kansas State was in 2014, they defeated them and went on to win a national championship! Anything is possible, especially with John Calipari at the helm.

Kansas State could be without leading scorer Dean Wade and if this is the case; they are cooked! He missed the past three games because of a stress fracture in his foot. However, he told reporters Sunday that he was “98 percent and hoping to play against Kentucky.”
