Everybody by now that follows the NFL has heard Tony Romo’s wonderful speech saying that Dak Prescott has earned the right to be the starting QB of the Cowboy’s. Period. He came out and said the exact thing he should have. Prescott has lead the Cowboys to 8 straight wins and a record of 8-1. The last time the Cowboys had won this many games in a roll was Tony Dorsett’s rookie year in 1977, (when the Cowboy’s won the Super Bowl)!
I know exactly what I heard Romo say, however now all the experts are putting a different spin on it. I heard one pundit say he had given up as being the starter of the Cowboys. Really? I didn’t heard that at all. Others have said that he has played his last down in Dallas. Maybe, maybe not. He has thrown in the towel for playing the rest of the season. Really? I didn’t hear that either. He looks to me like a man that can’t wait to get back on the field. The only time you heard about this was when Owner/GM Jerry Jones who has never been shy about saying something to an open mic about who should get playing time. Isn’t that Coach Jason Garrett’s job?
Well the Cowboy’s are Jerry’s toy, so over the years when he wound them up to hard they broke! This year is a different story. Thanks to a great offensive line and 2 rookies Ezekiel Elliott who leads the league in rushing and QB Dak Prescott who has handle himself like a veteran, Jerry has the best team in the league for now. With Romo being the highest paid backup QB, getting 18 million dollars a year, or however they restructure his contract to get his contract salary cap friendly. This is where the NFL throws monopoly money at QB’s. Some of the QB contracts are obscene like Jay Cutler’s of the Bears and the Jets Ryan Fitzpatrick to name a few!
Let’s get back to Romo. I think Romo could have done the same thing Prescott has done going 8-1. In his speech he said he was looking forward to playing for the best team Dallas has had.
Tony Romo’s future is still uncertain. However he will play for somebody in 2017, if not for Dallas another team would love to have the Pro Bowl level QB! Romo portrayed everything that is good in sports. That the team was more important than the individual!
That’s the stuff we try and teach our kids isn’t it? When they are learning the game and about Sportsmanship. Before they started pounding their chest with their fist in an attempt to show everyone how great they are. In a league where you mostly hear about players getting caught doing something they are not suppose to be doing, it was refreshing to hear what Tony Romo said. No one want’s to sit on the bench from little league to Junior High to High School to College. I take my hat off to Romo’s for his very classy act!
